Bookworm Policies

Book Trade-in Policy

The first and foremost rule of trading books with us is condition of the books.
All books must be in nice condition for that type of book - explanation will follow...
We do NOT accept the following books.

  • book from the Dollar General Store/Dollar Tree

  • readers digest books

  • text books

  • Bibles. We just do not have room for them all.

  • books with torn pages, broken spines, ripped covers, highlighting of pages, crayon, etc.
You get the picture, I am sure. Nicer books over all - just used. Any of the above type books may be turned in for the free section.
We do take Manga, craft books, gardening books, how-to books and self-help books, Knitting Needles, Skeins of Yarn and craft items in as trade. We take many items - just ask
The Credit you Receive is as follows
Hardback books are 1/3 - 1/4 cover price depending on age and conditon of book up to $8. Hardback books without their dustcover or with torn dustover are $1 - no exceptions.

Softback books generally are credited at 1/2 the cover price. Romances and best sellers need to be in nicer condition than most other books to receive full cover price in credits. A romance - even a newer one- may only be credited at $1 if it has received harsh treatment.
Exceptions
Romances older 5 years (unless they are Paranormal based) will only receive a $1.00 cover price.
Small serial romances older than the present year and previous year are $1 as cover price.

Older books that are obsolete but are not considered rare are credited at $1. The include old financial type books from the 1990s, travel guides, old computer books, etc. Simple too old and outdated to be worth anything.

Ex-library books are only credited at $1.00

Now for the Western, Children's and Sci-Fi categories. These books can be a little more worn than any other category. Those who read these categories are more interested in content than cover art. They are not published en-mass as romances and best sellers. They hold their value longer than other books. Some tearing is allowed, wrinkling of pages and other blemishes.
Whether we take any book or not is generally on a book-by-book basis. I cannot say we will take ALL books with tears in the covers. If we have 5 copies of a book that is being turned in with torn and wrinkled pages...well, chances are we will not take that book, etc.

Please remove all stickers from books prior to turning them into the BookWorm any stickers left on books will become the book cover price.
If you have any questions, please email me and I will update as needed.

How to Buy Books

There are two ways to buy books at the Book Worm.

First, you can buy with cash or check. If you are spending over $10, you can use a credit card.
Second, you can use your store credit to "pay" for the books. When you see a book with a "Cash Only" sticker on it or a "No Trade", it does not literally mean cash only. It means that you cannot use your store credits for those books.

If you buy a book with anything other than store credit, it will cost you 1/2 of the cover price plus a dime.

If you wish to use store credit, it will cost you the cover price of the book in your exchange credits and $.35 cash per book. Since trade in books generate 1/2 of their cover price in exchange credits, it is simply a "2 for 1" plus $.35. Still don't understand? Two $6.99 books will trade for one $6.99 book plus 35 cents. Why $35 cents? It was that way when I bought the store and so far, it is working. It pays to keep the lights on.

Exceptions:  Hardback books, oversize books paperback books and any book marked with a "CASH ONLY" sticker is NOT FOR TRADE. You cannot use store credits for these books. Books wrapped as sets are also NOT FOR TRADE. If you are caught unwrapping a set of books, you will be asked to leave the store and not return.

Again, ask questions - I do not mind or just email me and I will update as appropriately.

We will hold books for you up to 1 week. We will order books for you for a commission of %10
